Letter wrong to blame Carter
Regarding the Aug. 25 letter that blamed Jimmy Carter for radical Islam: The letter writer should go back a little bit further in history. It was not our “betrayal” of the shah that caused anything; rather it was our involvement in the overthrow of Iran's elected government before the shah, and then our role in installing the shah over the opposition of the Iranian people, that caused resentment of the United States and gave strength to radical Islamic opponents. Our meddling in the domestic affairs of other countries' governments has caused many of our international problems around the world.
